i thought it was a girl
til i gave her all my heart
and she destroyed my world
and my life it hit restart

i thought it was fun
so i tried drugs one and all
sometimes more than one
until within i'd fall

i tried alcohol for a year
til my liver abandoned ship
now i live in fear
of even another sip

i thought it was my looks
til i owned the hottest threads
fashions is for crooks
who desire too much bread

i thought it was my diet
til i gave up allknown foods
the first one to even try it
and my stomach signed a truce

i thought it was religion
til i found out it's all just false
what am i missing
is only at the cross

the truth that supasses thought
the love that conquers sin
my saviour's whom i sought
til he found me from within

one prayer is all it took
for him to change my mind
and show me just a look
of how he can't but shine

this light that's never dark
this truth that's never false
that softens hardened hearts
and redeems every lost cause

seeing soul instead of self
through all my darkest past
in me finding help
for his kingdom to advance

his love is unexpressed
cause there's no way to describe
this peaceful loving rest
from a living sacrifice
